Ruto Says UDA Has no Preferred Candidate for Any Position

The Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has no preferred candidates in any elective posts during the forthcoming general elections.

Deputy President William Ruto refuted claims the party has preferred candidates for specific seats ahead of the 2022 polls.

He insisted the party primaries must be conducted in a free, fair and democratic manner ahead of next year’s polls.

“The party primaries will be conducted above board and I assure aspirants to take my word,” he pointed out.

Ruto assured aspirants nobody will be given a direct party nomination certificate unless they are cleared during the primaries.

He spoke during a meeting of the party’s aspirants drawn from the coast region held at Wild Waters Centre in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

The DP who has not officially quit the Jubilee Party insisted there will be no direct nomination unless it is a special case.

Ruto insisted the party has to conduct a free and fair nomination to get the right candidates for next year’s general elections.

“Let me encourage you to mobilize your supporters to register as party members to be able to participate in the nomination exercise,” he said.

The Deputy President said that is the only way to also to make the party a mass movement during the 2022 general election.

Ruto said the move will enable the party to be built on basic ideology and to be run on a basic agreement.

He said the party wants to have members who can run and build the party to the next level after forming the next government.
