Manchester City grabbed a late equalizer from Kevin de Bruyne at Anfield yesterday to secure a 2-2 draw.

Liverpool had got a lead after an impressive solo goal by Mohammed Salah.

The Defending champions and Jurgen Klopp’s charges were hoping to overtake Chelsea at the top of the table, but this result means Thomas Tuchel’s side stay clear at the Premier League summit.

City dominated the first half but wasted a host of chances and were punished when Sadio Mane was the beneficiary of more Salah brilliance to apply a clinical finish to put Liverpool ahead after 59 minutes.

Liverpool’s lead lasted just 10 minutes until Phil Foden tormented the struggling James Milner to strike a low cross into the left corner of Allisons’ Goal after picking a pass from Gabriel Jesus.

City manager Pep Guardiola was nursing an understandable sense of injustice after Milner somehow escaped a second yellow card for blatantly upending Bernardo Silva, before Anfield exploded in joy after 76 minutes when Salah drove his way past five City defenders to power home a stunning right footed finish.

However that was not to last long as City’s performance merited at least a point and secured it when De Bruyne’s shot took a deflection off Joel Matip to beat Alisson with nine minutes left.

In La Liga, Leaders Real Madrid suffered defeat as they were beaten 2-1 at Espanyol.

Raul de Tomas gave the hosts a 17th-minute lead when he met Adrian Embarba’s low cross into the box.
Aleix Vidal added an excellent second, beating Nacho before firing past Thibaut Courtois on the hour mark.

Karim Benzema responded for Real with a fine finish into the bottom corner with 19 minutes left, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side could not find a late equaliser.

It is a second loss in a week for Real, who suffered a shock Champions League defeat by competition debutants Sheriff Tiraspol on Tuesday.

Ancelotti’s side are now winless in three games after being held to a goalless draw against Villarreal in their previous league outing.
