ODM Party has dismissed claims that Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok has been kicked out of the Minority Whips’ position of the County Assembly of Nairobi.
Reports appearing on a section of the media had claimed that the Minority Whip had lost his position to Lower Savannah MCA Nicholas Okumu who is serving his first term.
In a Statement from ODM seen by Taarifa News the party had not made any changes to the leadership of Nairobi County Assembly neither had it sent any earlier communication for the same.
“A communication purporting to effect changes to the leadership of the minority in the assembly of Nairobi City County Assembly has been brought to our attention. Kindly note that the Party has NOT made any changes to the leadership and the same did not originate from us,” the letter reads in part.
Mr Imwatok is a vocal opposition MCA who enjoys close political ties with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
Mr Okumu rose on a point of order to notify the assembly of a letter that had sought to instill him as the Minority Leader from the party but was stopped by Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto who questioned its authenticity.
Nominated MCA Marry Arrivisa addressing members through Zoom however stated that she never saw or received a letter removing Mr Imwatok
