Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has assured the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee that the National Police Service Commission will henceforth execute its mandate without interference.

Speaking today at the Parliament building, Gathoni Wamuchomba, Chairperson, Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee reiterated that security is a critical issue and Right which must be provided in line with the constitution of Kenya.

The Committee held its meeting  as it reviewed the working relationship between the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and the Inspector General  of police (IG).

Earlier in June, there was a storm in the police service after promotion of over 1, 000 police officers was put on hold. The NPSC chief executive maintained that the promotions were unlawful as the IG had no authority in law to oversee them.

The battle also saw several organisations such as the Amnesity International who called the Inspector General of Police to respect Constitutional mandate of the National Police Service Commission.
