Kakamega MCAs Benchmark Nairobi Culture Committee

Kakamega County Assembly Members of the Sectorial Committee for Labour Social services, Culture Youths and Sports were on Thursday, June 22, 2023, taken for a site visit in Makadara and Kayole Social Facilities by Nairobi Sectorial Committee for Culture and Community Service.

The MCAs who are doing the tour in accordance to Governor Baraza’s Manifesto of Building a rehab Centre for street kids said they have learnt what is required as they get back to Kakamega and give a report.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Modesta Auka stated that they will table a report which will soon see a rehab Centre being establish in the County to help the street kids.

“We needed to know how building a rehabilitation can be done because starting something is different from Implementing. You can start but fail as you proceed. We have understood that there are phases of staying with the kids at the rehab,” the Committee Chairlady Modesta Auka stated.

“We will give a good report to the Governor that it can be done. We will start by establishing one Centre and see how it performs before adding more, “she added.

She stated that the program by the County will ensure all the street kids in the towns of Kakamega are taken care of and those with parents reunited with them.

Making his remarks the Culture Committee Chair for Nairobi City County Assembly who is the elected MCA for Kabiru ward said they have shown their visitors around and they hope to receive more members from various counties to benchmark from what they are doing in the City.

“We have had our counterparts from Kakamega county who were benchmarking on what we do as a committee. We have explained to them what we have done so far and how we are sensitizing the executive that more money is allocated in the coming Financial year for the sectors that we oversight,” Munga stated.

He explained that they were taken for various site visits which included social facilities where they got to understand how street kid are taken care off.

“We took them to Makadara and Kayole rehabilitation Centers. They have seen how we are doing though not much yet, but they have learnt something as they go to establish a rehab Centre,” He added.

The legislator also invited the various committees of different counties to Nairobi to come and Learn from them.
