Democracy Activist Kenneth Matiba to Be Honored By A Statue Along Kenneth Matiba Road

Kenneth Matiba will soon be honored with a statue in Nairobi County after the Members of the Nairobi County pass a motion that proposes the construction, installation, and unveiling of a statue in his honor.


In a notice of Motion by CBD Member of County Assembly Daniel Ngengi, he urged the County Executive together with the NMS to construct install and unveil the statue along the Kenneth Matiba Road as an act of honor for the late locally and internationally celebrated legend.


“This Assembly urges the County Executive in Conjunction with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services to construct, install and unveil the statue of the late Kenneth Matiba along the recently renamed Kenneth Matiba Road as an act of elevated honor of the locally and globally celebrated legend of inspiration to the young generation,” read the notice in part.


The constitution provides the MCAs with powers to rename roads, streets, and built statues.
Since independence, the eminent citizens who have remarkable contributions to the development of the country have been honored by renaming roads and unveiling statues that offer constant remanence and recollection of their unique attributes.


The late Matiba who was a democracy and nonsense activist was honored last year March by the Nairobi County Assembly by the renaming of Accra Road to Kenneth Matiba Road.


Several other leaders including, Garissa Senator the late Mohamed Yusuf Haji, Former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, Charles Rubia, and many more leaders have been honored by the Second Nairobi Assembly by roads being renamed after them with Ronald Ngala Statue Being Constructed and unveiled along Ronald Ngala Street.
