Cementers trucks working on the Sagana-Kagio road
An official of construction company Cementers has allegedly swindled some businessmen of shs 6 million.
The businessmen said efforts to get their money from one Deepak Halai have been futile.
According to the businessmen, the cash was supposed to be paid to the businessmen after they helped in the construction of the Sagana –Kagio –Kianjiru road project in 2018.
The project was awarded to Cementers by one of the roads agencies at a total cost of shs 1.1 billion.
Several other businessmen involved in the project have complained of “lack of transparency and failure to honor pledges” by Deepak Halai.
“We also have debts to pay. Deepak Halai has been cagey and doesn’t want to honor the promises he made. This is a deal gone sour,” one businessman said.
The project involved resurfacing, repairs and extension of drainage, bridges, walkways and shoulders.
The company was also the one that expanded the Likoni –Enterprise –Shreeji road.
Efforts to get a comment from Deepak Haki were futile since he didn’t respond to calls and text messages send to him.

In 1992, Cementers established a subsidiary company in Uganda whose objectives were to meet the demands for the region.
