Businesswoman and former Jubilee financer Mary Wambui has been charged with possession of a firearm without a valid permit.
Wambui has been charged at Millimani Law Courts before Magistrate Wendy Muchemi and she denied the two accounts of being in possession of a firearm without licence. She committed the offence between April 2020 and December 2021.
The prosecution told the court that Wambui was found with 22 round of ammunition and a gun.
Her Lawyers Nelson Havi and Kipchumba Murkomen had requested the couyrt to release her on a 5000 Bond.
“The offense for which my client has been brought to court is a misdemeanour and it is preposterous that she had to spend the night in a cell,” Havi said.
The case will be mentioned on 25th of this month.
Wambui was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly being in possession of an unregistered firearm.
Wambui was picked up from her Runda home and questioned by detectives before being taken to the Muthaiga police station where she spent the night.

The businessman is already facing a Sh2.2 billion tax evasion charge.
