Azimio Members of the County Assembly have given a 12-hour ultimatum to the police for the release of Korogocho Member of County Absalom Odhiambo Onyango alias Matach.
Led by the Majority leader Peter Imwatok, the MCA’s said the arrest of Matach is intimidation as he had been requested to appear before the National Cohesion and Integrity Commission (NCIC ) on Wednesday though he had gone there early,(Monday, January, 30,2023)
“We demand his immediate release ….because this amounts to intimidation and we shall not allow it. Hon Matach was only expressing himself I don’t understand what has informed the imminent arrest.” Imwatok stated.
They stated that the legislature should be left unconditionally before they take another action.
The legislatures threatened the government to arrest Azimio leader Raila Odinga because it is from him that they get instructions.
“The government knows whom they are supposed to arrest. Let them try to arrest our Leader Raila Odinga because it is where we get instructions from. We tell them to just dare…,” Imwatok added.
Matach was arrested on Monday, January 30, 2023, shortly after honouring a summons by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
The Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) had been summoned by NCIC over remarks made during an Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition rally at the Kamukunji Grounds on Monday, January 23, 2023, criticizing the government amid a stirred-up crowd of their supporters.
In a statement on Monday, NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia confirmed that the MCA honoured the summons and was thereafter handed over to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further action.
“Today the Korogocho MCA Hon. Absalom Odhiambo Onyango honoured summons by NCIC whereupon he was arrested and handed over to DCI sleuths Nairobi for further action,” NCIC said in a tweet on Monday.
