KRA officials, along with members of the Nairobi County Executive, were expected to shed light on the intricacies of revenue collection in Nairobi county during previous committee sessions.

However, their continuous absence has sparked concerns among committee members, leading to allegations of collaboration between KRA and the executive.

“It’s like there is a collaboration between KRA and the executive since when they fail to appear, the executive also fails. It’s high time they stop ignoring and taking this committee for granted,” remarked Peter Imwatok, the Chair of the Adhoc committee and the majority leader of the Nairobi County Assembly.

Imwatok’s statement underscores the growing frustration within the committee regarding the lack of accountability from the key stakeholders.

The Adhoc committee, tasked with overseeing revenue matters, has now set a firm deadline for KRA and Nairobi executive members to appear on Tuesday, the 23rd, at 10 am. The committee insists that the presence of these officials is vital to gaining insights into the current revenue collection methods employed in Nairobi county.

In a stern warning, the committee emphasized that failure on the part of the Nairobi executive to comply with the summons may result in impeachment proceedings for incompetence. This move reflects the committee’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in revenue management, and it underscores the gravity of the situation.

The issue at hand is further exacerbated by reports indicating significant revenue losses under the current collection methods employed by the county. The Adhoc committee views this as a critical matter that requires urgent attention and resolution to safeguard the financial interests of Nairobi county.

As the scheduled appearance date approaches, all eyes are on KRA and the Nairobi County Executive to honor the summons, cooperate with the committee, and address the concerns surrounding revenue collection. The outcome of this summons is likely to have far-reaching implications for the accountability mechanisms within Nairobi county’s financial management system.
