Watu Credit Kenya and the Boda-Boda Association of Kenya have joined forces to organize a series of financial literacy clinics for motorbike (boda-boda) riders.

These clinics serve as a platform for Watu Credit Kenya to directly engage with its customers, listening to their feedback and addressing their concerns. The aim is to ensure timely loan repayments, minimize repossessions, and empower riders towards financial stability and responsible financial practices.

The inaugural clinics, held in Molo town, Nakuru County, focus on equipping riders with essential financial literacy skills to effectively manage their finances.

“We view our customers as partners, not adversaries, and we are not at war with them,” remarked Erick Massawe, Country Manager for Watu Kenya. “Investing in our customers’ financial education will create a ripple effect of positive change, aligning with the government’s bottom-up economic agenda.”

Participants engaged with company representatives, sharing challenges and receiving assurance of Watu’s commitment to collaborative solutions. The event also advocated for mainstreaming the boda-boda sector, aiming to enhance livelihoods and industry standards.

“With legislative support, we aim to promote sector growth, improve safety standards, and foster ethical practices,” stated Victor Getenya, Sales and Marketing Manager at Watu Credit Kenya.

Recognizing the boda-boda sector’s pivotal role in Kenya, Chairman Kevin Mubadi of the Boda-Boda Association emphasized the importance of financial literacy in sustainable economic development.

Beyond financial assistance, Watu Credit Kenya has undertaken various initiatives to support the sector, including introducing electric motorbikes, establishing a riding school (Watu Shule) to reduce accidents, and implementing charging and battery swapping stations, alongside offering pre-owned motorbikes.
