NGO Council Calls On Government To Restore Peace in Kerio Valley

The National Council of NGOs and its Peace stakeholders have come out to strongly condemn the insecurity and frequent innocent killings in the Kerio valley region and any other part of the country.

The Council has called on the local leadership to take necessary steps and actions towards realization of the much needed peace in the kerio valley.

“The Council regrets that several and indeed innocent people have lost lives in the valley. We urge for drastic actions to be taken to ensure peace and harmony prevails in the Kerio valley,”they said in a statement.

They called on “Wananchi” to play a role for peace and not engage in any form of lawlessness.

the council chairman Steve Cheboi called on the leadership at county levels to bring together the from both communities for peace forums and and stability in the region.

“Necessary infrastructural development should be initiated in the region to enhance peace and open up the region for socioeconomic development. The NGO Council urges Government to take bold steps and deal firmly with criminals who engage in killings and distractions of Peace,” said Cheboi.

Meanwhile NGO Council has urged religious leaders to utilize church services to preach peace and urge the faithfuls influence the communities to be at the forefront to respect the santity of life.

“Elders from both communities are encourages to be at the forefront for peace. The Council will work with other key peace stakeholders to champion for sustainable peace in the Kerio valley,” added Cheboi.
