Mbagathi Hospital will have an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by mid-May including a pediatric ICU.

This was revealed today by the Nairobi County Health, Wellness, and Nutrition CECM Dr. Anastacia Nyalita during a tour of the facility.
Addressing the media after visiting the various departments of the hospital, Nyalita said they are aware of what needs to be improved in terms of emergency services, improving services, and infrastructure to provide quality services for the residents of Nairobi.

“An ICU facility will be up at the Mbagathi Hospital by the middle of May and we are accelerating that,” she stated.

The CEC revealed that they are now improving on the complaints that had been previously raised at the Senate Committee for Health saying they launched a line for receiving any complaints and help when necessary.

On her part, Mbagathi Acting Superintendent Dr. Brendah Walaba said the County Level 5 Hospital appreciated the efforts of the County in ensuring the facility is well equipped saying they are in the process of recruiting more medical personnel and support staff.

“Currently we have a total of 528 personnel including the medical staff (Doctors Nurses, Clinical officers) and support staff. We are sure that the County will add more around 200 as the process has already begun,” she stated.

Mbagathi Hospital serves a total of 1000-1200 patients on a daily average basis and has a bed capacity of 440, 320 for the General ward and 120 for the isolation ward which is currently handling patients suffering from Cholera.

The hospital also has a 112-bed capacity morgue which currently has 38 unclaimed bodies.

The hospital serves a large capacity of citizens from the middle social economic class.
