Harambee Stars head coach Jacob “Ghost” Mulee quit his role in a surprise move on Wednesday after just under one year after his appointment.

Mulee tendered his resignation alongside his technical bench team that included his assistant Twahir Muhidin and goalkeeping coach Haggai Azande.

But it is emerging that Mulee was going to be fired by the federation on disciplinary and poor performance after the two works cup qualifiers matches against Uganda in Nairobi and Rwanda in Kigali early this month.

Inside reports indicate some quarters at the federation were not happy with how Mulee had been handling himself especially in Rwanda where he appeared late at the pre match team meeting.

His fielding in the game against the Amavubi’s of Rwanda in Kigali did not also go down well with federation officials.

The relationship between Mulee and the federation has not been cordial since the match against Rwanda with the Federation concerned about the selection of players and fielding.

And with a federation also managed by an erratic president who under his six year tenure so far a similar number of coaches have handled the team, it was a matter of when Mulee was going to be pushed out.A source close to the federation stated Mulee had no option to quit or be fired before the next qualifier against Mali.

With a broke federation and unable to pay for compensation for breach of contract, the middle ground was to have Mulee tendering his resignation on mutual agreement.

And on Wednesday Mulee opted to quit alongside two of the technical bench members he came with when he was appointed on October 21 last year.

A statement issued late on Wednesday evening by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Barry Otieno read in part,” Football Kenya Federation and Harambee Stars Head Coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, his assistant Twahir Muhidin and Goalkeeping Coach Haggai Azande have reached a decision to part ways by mutual consent, effective immediately.”

The statement further read, “Assistant coaches Ken Odhiambo and William Muluya will remain in the team as the federation works to reconstruct the Harambee Stars technical bench, ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers against Mali, scheduled for October 6, 2021 and October 12,2021, home and away respectively.”
