The casual labourers are owed over two million shillings by the county government

Thirty eight casual labourers who provide cleaning services at City Hall have not been paid for four months amounting to over two million shillings.
The labourers have gone without wages since they were contracted. A county official said the casuals have a monthly wage bill of Kshs508,250 amounting to Kshs2, 033, 000
When contacted for comment, Nairobi county chief officer for Public Service Management, Leboo Ole Morintat distanced himself from the matter but promised to make a follow up.
“The County Public Service Board recruits upon request by specific sector, in this case it is administration sector under the County Secretary and the Finance Department which pays”, he said.
However, Mr Morintat said the Public Service Management would “check and follow up the matter for justice to be done to all”.
He noted that the County Director of Administration, Mr Dominic Odero, and the County Secretary, Dr Jairus Musumba, were better placed to speak about the issue.
The casual workers were hired after it became apparent that standards of cleanliness at City Hall had greatly dropped, with dusty corridors and littered office premises.
Although their initial four – month contracts were extended by additional two months, the cleaners have not received any payments since they were hired.
“I can conclusively say we have cleaners who were hired by the administration and they are owed wages for the services they have rendered”, Kenya County Government Workers Union Secretary of the Staff Branch, Festus Ngari said
However, the Union official said he was not in a position to explain why the workers had not received their dues because he did not have sufficient details.
