It has now emerged that Pwani Oils Limited and Woodlands Company Limited had withdrawn their complaints at the Competition Authority in Kenya.
In a statement, Majid Al Futtaim indicated that the complaints to CAK had been withdrawn and they had even renewed partnership agreements with the two companies.
“Majid Al Futtaim was surprised by the recent decision made by the Competition Authority in Kenya, which comes despite the withdrawal of the complaint and renewed partnership agreements that have been signed with Woodlands Company Limited and Pwani Oils Limited.” They said in a statement to newsrooms.
The Carrefour parent company said they have full confidence in the fairness and integrity of our business practices and will be appealing the Competition Authority’s decision.
They said they uphold high standards including protecting the purchasing power of Kenyans.

They have promised to continue working to benefit their customers, partners, and stakeholders to ensure meaningful contributions to Kenya’s development agenda.

Yesterday, the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) sanctioned Carrefour over the abuse of buyer power.
The authority said that the retail store abused its superior bargaining power over its two suppliers; Pwani Oil Products and Woodland Company leading to a fine of Sh, 108,327,873.60 for the abuse.
They ordered the retailer to reimburse Sh 16,757,899 in rebate reduction from the invoices and Sh500,000 for marketing support charged to the two companies.
The retail store opened its 22nd store in the country at Promenade Mall in Mombasa’s Nyali area, providing added convenience and accessibility for customers in the coastal region.
The retailers first established their number-one store in Kenya in 2016 and they have grown positively.
