National Youth Leaders Caucus today  have said they are going to unite and ensure they take a centre stage in ensuring they deliver the country in the third liberation. This include issues of quality education, employment of the young people, training and ensure the youths are well represented in the parties.

They have given their complain on IEBC’s decision to prevent people from vying as independent candidates after the party nominations.

Addressing the media today they said the commission has failed to ensure young people are registered as voters. Last month IEBC closed mass voter registration where it was targeting 6 Million Voters but only managed to register 1.5 Million which is close to 25%of the total.

“As young people we have taken offence that IEBC has actually under performed in the mandate of registering young people across the country. Out of a target of 6Million young people that were supposed to be registered they only managed to register 1.5 Million which is 25% of the target,” said Alex Matere.

They have promised to be ready to help IEBC register more youths.

Speaking during the event Kenya University Students Organization President Anthony Manyara said IEBC needs to go to different campuses and ensure the students are registered. Manyara called on IEBC to go and register the comrades.

“Comrades have not been registered. We are calling IEBC to come and register them,” said Manyara.

He dismissed the recent call of Registrar of political Parties of dismissing the candidates who fail in the party nominations vying as independent candidates. He said people should be allowed to vie with different parties even when they fail in the nominations.

“You are supposed to be given freedom to vie with any party or be an independent candidate, “paused Manyara.
