Presidential candidate for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections scheduled for February 29th, 2024, Peter Manyonge Wanyama, has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto regarding the disregard for court orders.

Addressing journalists at Milimani Law Court on the final day of the campaign, Wanyama emphasized that his leadership would not tolerate any actions undermining the independence of the judiciary, labeling it unconstitutional.

Wanyama also criticized Chief Justice Martha Koome for engaging in discussions with the executive, which he deemed as compromising the judiciary’s independence. He stressed the importance of each arm of government operating independently.

Support for Wanyama’s candidacy was expressed by prominent lawyer Danstan Omari, who highlighted Wanyama’s humble background and leadership skills.

Omari believed that Wanyama’s leadership would combat corruption within the Law Society of Kenya and eliminate unscrupulous lawyers who exploit loopholes for personal gain.

If elected, Wanyama would become the 51st president of the Law Society of Kenya, succeeding Eric Theuri, whose term had ended.
