Kananu To Be Sworn in As Nairobi Governor

Ann Kananu Will be sworn in tomorrow as the Governor of Nairobi.

Kananu has been in an Acting capacity for close to one year now after a protracted Court battle with the former Governor Mike Sonko that eventually saw the court throw out Sonko’s appeal.

In a letter dated 11th, November 2021 City Hall had requested the judiciary to send in a judge for the swearing in exercise.

In a response to the letter, City Hall has now been informed by the Honorable Chief Justice that a judge has been assigned the swearing in duty.

“I have been directed by the Honorable Chief Justice to inform you that a judge has been appointed to preside over the swearing in ceremony on Tuesday 16th November at 10.00am,” read the letter.

In a gazette Notice dated 15th November the county secretary Jairus Musumba has also notified the general public about the swearing in of Miss Kananu.

“PURSUANT to sections 14 and 16 (1) (b) of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act, 2019, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 74 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, it is notified for information of the general public that the swearing-in ceremony of Ms. Ann Kananu Mwenda, as the Governor of Nairobi City County, shall take place on Tuesday 16th November, 2021 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre COMESA Grounds, starting from 10.00 a.m. “read the Gazette Notice.


Her swearing in had been halted after Former Nairobi Governer Mike Sonko moved to court which declined her swearing in.
