Its all systems go for the StanChart Marathon

Nairobi City County Ag. County Secretary Dr. Jairus Musumba and County Executive Sports, Mrs Janet Ouko hosted Mr. Peter Gitau, the Chairman of the Standard Chartered Marathon Nairobi Local Organising Committee at City Hall.

The courtesy call was an opportunity for the organising Committee Chair to brief the Executive team on the concept of this year’s Marathon and to reach out to Nairobi County, which is the Marathons’ host city to support the Marathon through partnerships and waivers.

The meeting was also aimed at inviting
H.E Ann Kananu to the official launch of the 18th edition of the StanChart Marathon which will be held on Tuesday 13th July 2021 at the Aboretum grounds.

In a speech read by Dr. Musumba on behalf of the Deputy Governor and acting Governor, H.E, Ann Kananu, praised the Stanchart Nairobi Marathon saying that it had made major strides and milestones by achieving it’s objectives of ensuring funds for the needy in the community was raised, raising Nairobi County’s profile internationally as well as using the platform to nurture World class atheletes who have represented Kenya internationally.

Said H.E, Ann Kananu, “I am looking forward to being a huge part of this year’s event. I greatly welcome the introduction of the Virtual marathon as part of Covid-19 preventive measures. But overall we look forward to a well attended physical event. Remember that your team has my unwavering support. I also look forward to the eye clinics which will be held in the respective sub counties. These forums will be used to bring eye care services closer to Mwananchi.”

The Local Organising Committee Chairman, Mr. Peter Gitau lauded Nairobi County Government’s support and commitment for the Stanchart marathon over the years since it’s inception in 2003. Mr. Gitau mentioned that the funds collected from the marathon would go towards community engagements. He added that this year they have partnered with Kipchoge Keino Foundation to sensitize athletes on resource management. The bank also plans to train university students on financial and entrepreneural management and adequately prepare them for the job market among other projects.

Dr. Musumba said that going forward the County and Stanchart bank would work closely for a successful event.
