Agilitee, has in the past five years intensified its efforts to grow the adoption of electric vehicles in Africa.

Having transitioned from a startup to a fully-fledged EV maker, Agilitee holds the distinction of being the first electric vehicle manufacturer in Africa and the world’s first black-owned electric vehicle manufacturer.

Established in 2018, the company recently marked its fifth anniversary in the industry.

Originating from humble beginnings, Agilitee faced considerable resistance in its home country, South Africa, where vestiges of apartheid opposition to black industrialists persist in unexplored domains. Despite encountering numerous challenges, the company has successfully deployed its vehicles in five out of South Africa’s nine provinces and is poised to enter its sixth province this weekend.

Agilitee’s electric vehicles are currently operational in Western Cape, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal provinces. The company aims to expand its presence to all provinces in South Africa by the end of December 2023.

JSE Listing

Having gone public last year with the issuance of 1 billion founder shares, the founder altruistically distributed over 100 million shares to more than 1000 individuals across Africa. Agilitee is actively pursuing stock market listing and capital-raising initiatives to fuel its growth plans, intending to release 50,000 electric scooters in targeted African regions in 2024.

The Agilitee narrative underscores the importance of patience, persistence, commitment, and an unwavering spirit in overcoming obstacles and thriving in the new age of pioneering industries beyond borders. CEO Dr. Mandla Lamba emphasizes the company’s challenging journey and the need to confront societal imbalances.

Dr. Lamba laments the lack of a true democracy in South Africa, where black-owned companies encounter resistance. He acknowledges the crucial support from countries like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho, Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda, enabling Agilitee’s survival and eventual expansion to South Africa. Dr. Lamba expresses gratitude for the opportunity to lead the entire continent toward a sustainable, green society.

Despite the hardships, Agilitee looks forward to a continental rollout in 2024, buoyed by the overwhelming support received. The company recently introduced Agilitee LoadMo, a premium three-wheeler set for release in the first quarter of 2024, alongside plans to unveil three other new models this month.
