Tongaren Member of National Assembly John Chikati issued a desideratum on Monday for the region’s Director of Education, Fredrick Mukabane, to vacate office or face the wrath of the public.

While addressing the press at Mukuyuni, the legislator, who was accompanied by some area leaders, accused Mukabane of mismanagement and a lack of accountability in the employment of teachers.

“We have had a meeting with Mukabane, but he couldn’t vividly explain to us how he shared out the more than 150 TSC employment letters across Bungoma North,” highlighted Chikati.

The MP further disclosed that the director is not only working unilaterally but has also abused office by soliciting for bribes in schools across the region without caring about their academic or economic status.

Crispinus Sifuna, Bungoma North KNUT Executive Secretary, reported that he has experienced a lot of demurral from Mukabane whenever he pointed him out.

“Many times I’ve mentioned that Mukabane is killing our education sector in this region, but he could report me to the police instead of looking into his actions and turning into a new leaf,” bemoaned Sifuna.

Echoing his sentiments, Bernard Kikechi, Mbakalo MCA, emphasized that the area leaders will not relent in the fight against Mukabane since he’s long proven to be a stumbling block in education matters in Tongaren.

“Mukabane has caused the deaths of two teachers who died of depression after he pushed for their interdiction besides transferring eleven teachers from Maliki Secondary School in third term,” he decried.

In his defense, Mukabane rubbished all the allegations, saying none of the accusers have tangible evidence against him.

“This fight is because I’m the longest serving officer around; some of these leaders accusing me wanted me to give employment letters to their kin, and I declined because I’ve no mandate,” upheld Mukabane.

Conclusively, Chikati asserted that Mukabane should vacate office within 14 days or face ejection from leaders and wananchi.

Along with the MP were Kabuyefwe ward MCA Wafula White and Milima ward MCA Jerusa Aleu, among other area leaders.
