Bungoma Deputy Governor Janepher Mbatiany has condemned political rivals of cheap and dirty politics aimed at tarnishing the reputation of women leaders in the region.

Speaking at a public forum in Mt. Elgon Sub County, Mbatiany called upon leaders of the region to come together and work towards a common goal of improving the lives of wananchi.

“We have been lurking behind in developmental matters for a very long time, but we don’t seem to learn any lessons. It is high time we focused on what we were elected in office to do instead of having wars of words that add no value to our lives,” she noted.

On the other hand, she pointed out a vice that has recently cropped up in Mt. Elgon where some politicians maliciously pay youths to peddle propaganda across social media platforms to destroy the future of others or simply shame women leaders.

“It is heart-breaking that our youths are now being used as political weapons instead of human resources in bettering our homeland. It is high time you awoke from the deep sleep and discerned right from wrong,” advised Mbatiany.

Joan Kirong, Kapkateny MCA, and the Deputy Leader of the Majority at the County Assembly joined hands with Mbatiany to strongly condemn male chauvinism and pointed out femicide that have been rampantly reported across Kenya.

She challenged parents to be responsible and provide essential needs for their daughters so as to avoid peer pressure, influence, and vulnerability to con men who will eventually take advantage of them.

“Many cases of teenage pregnancies that we have witnessed are the result of a girl being wooed by a perpetrator who takes care of some of their needs, and it’s only parents who can stop this trend by becoming responsible,” noted Kirong.
