In an effort to strengthen institutional structure that utilizes County Representatives in devolving services to Persons with Albinism at the grassroots, Albinism Society of Kenya has launched a formal and structured system of governance. This has been done in the County Representatives Forum which was held in Nairobi in conjunction with National Democratic Institute.
“What started out as a capacity-building training by NDI to members of staff at ASK has now evolved to a more functional and operational structure of governance, for the benefit of all Persons with Albinism,” ASK leaders said in a statement.
“Today in partnership with National Democratic Institute, we converge for the first ever Annual County Representatives Forum, to reverberate our continued commitment towards improving the lives of all Persons with Albinism by launching an annual County Representatives Forum,” they continued.
Speaking during the event, Former nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, called on the government to increase the funds for people living with disability. He allegedly claimed that the government slashed the initial amount.

“We want more resources to be allocated to people with disability. I fought while in the senate and the slashed amount was reversed. Some of our members are unable to go to the referral hospitals to get the necessities that are supplies by the government to reduce the risk of Skin Cancer,” said Mwaura.
He asked leaders making fun out of their disability to keep away and respect them. He called on them to stop exposing their ignorance to the public and never judge by their skin color.
“We have people like Murathe and Junet who have been going round disgracing us. If you don’t know anything about Albinism, don’t go round exposing your ignorance to the public,’ Mwaura said.
