Human rights activists have slammed the government over new fuel prices.
Human rights activist Cidi Otieno termed the decision insensitive and that the government has failed to protect the common citizen from economical exploitation.
‘‘We are really shocked by this government move and we shall be going to court to challenge the same because they are borrowing too much but they cant account for it.’’ He said.
‘‘Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority is telling us about value added tax of 8 per cent, are we not paying taxes to this government should we suffer because of unrealistic taxes? This is uncalled for and we are demanding prompt suspension of this new fuel prices.’’ Cidi told the media.
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority EPRA in a statement indicated that Super Petrol will retail at Sh134.72, Diesel at Sh.115.60 and Kerosene at shillings 110.82 per litre in Nairobi.
The authority has however, defended the prices saying it is inclusive of the 8 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018.
