Learning has today resumed in Ol Moran Laikipia after the government provided security.
25 schools had been closed due to bandit’s attacks in the area causing insecurity. The government announced that the bandits had fled the settlement following intense security operations at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy.
“With calm having returned to Laikipia disturbed areas, schools that had been closed have reopened and smiling children who had missed on education are streaming back to school. Security presence remains high with intensive patrols in all surrounding areas continuing,” read the Police Statement.
On Friday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i spent at the place ensuring that schools would be reopened today.
Security has been beefed up with more officers patrolling the area and ensuring the learners and teachers are safe.
Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi also assured the residents that schools will now be full time as security had been now made tight.
Laikipia County was recently declared a security zone following bandit attacks that have left many residents homeless and several police officers injured. In the past the government had alleged local politicians having a hand in the disputes experienced in the area.
Last week Hon William Kamket who is the Tiaty Mp and Former Laikipia North Mp William Lemourkel were arraigned in Court for inciting locals to invade farms ranches and wildlife conservancies to graze their livestock.
