Nairobi County Assembly has passed the motion that will require the Nairobi Metropolitan Services and the County Executives to formulate a policy to regulate private operators in the towing industry.

The motion which was championed by the Umoja 1 MCA Mark Mugambi, recommends that the county government of Nairobi acquires towing equipment and strategically locate them in the county for timely intervention in cases of accident or stalled vehicles.

“Most of the traffic that is normally witnessed especially in Nairobi, is normally called by accidents .it normally takes a lot of time before the vehicles are moved from the places. in many of this incidences, citizens get delayed for many hours and this will motion will make the NMS and the executive to buy our own Breakdowns,” said Mugambi.

He also acknowledged that it will help cut the cost moving the stalled vehicles as the Private breakdowns are normally expensive and take a lot of time to come to the place of accident.

Mugambi who is a member of the Public Works and infrastructure said the committee will sit down with the executive and NMS to ensure that the policies are formed.

“The Private breakdowns take a lot of time and are very expensive for a common Citizen. we will not be waiting for too long if the County gets their own. A big percentage of accidents that occur at night are caused by vehicles that breakdown is not removed from the road. I also urge the National government, including KURA, KENHA and KRRA to have these vehicles strategically at points because they are emergency vehicles,” Mugambi added.
