Matatu Operators to Increase Fares Tommorow Over Hiked Fuel Prices

Nairobi Matatu Operators Chairman Jimal Ibrahim Popularly known as Jimal Roho Safi has announced an increase in matatu bus fare.


This is after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority announced an increase in Fuel prices yesterday.


The Chairman of Association of Matatu Operators Jimal Ibrahim confirmed the increase in charges of bus fare.


The chairman said that they have reached an agreement that they increase in the charges will be effective from tomorrow.


“From tomorrow we will increase our fare due to fuel hike. Kindly bear with us,” wrote the Chairman.


Speaking to during an interview Branden Marshall, a top official of the matatus SACCOs and Public Service Vehicles (PSV) stated that they are all in agreement with Jamal’s notice of hiking fare.


“Matatus cannot just be working on fuel alone, we must survive. To cushion the industry and also for us to survive, most SACCOs are planning to scrap off-peak hours in our schedules,” he told the media.


The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory announced yesterday the prices of fuel to be as follows: price of Super Petrol went up by Ksh7.58, Diesel by Ksh7.94, and Kerosene by Ksh12.97 Petrol will go at retail at Ksh134.72 per litre in Nairobi, Diesel Ksh115.60, and Kerosene Ksh110.82 in Nairobi while in Mombasa, Petrol will retail at Ksh132.46, Diesel at Ksh113.36 while Kerosene retailing at Ksh108.57.


The prices for the three fuel products had remained constant for months, retailing at Ksh127.14 for petrol, Ksh107.66 for diesel, and Ksh97.85 in Nairobi.
