A youth-led non-governmental organization, “Gen Z,” has petitioned President William Ruto and the National Assembly, demanding the immediate removal of Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho over alleged corruption and mismanagement.

The group, comprising members aged 17 to 31, accuses Kimotho of engaging in irregular deals that undermine the President’s food security agenda.

According to the petition, Kimotho has prioritized contracts with Chinese companies for dam construction tenders in exchange for hefty kickbacks, allegedly in collusion with the National Irrigation Authority to siphon public funds.

Gen Z also claims Kimotho fraudulently compiled a list of individuals to receive payments related to the Mwache Multipurpose Dam project.

Additionally, they highlight delays in compensating landowners, resulting in taxpayers incurring daily penalties of KES 8.2 million.

The petition further links Kimotho to past land scandals involving Finsco Africa and Heri Homes, alleging that he has used the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to intimidate those questioning his actions.

The group has given President Ruto one month to act, warning of widespread protests if Kimotho is not removed.

“We will continue demonstrating until our demands are met,” they stated.

The petition raises serious concerns and is addressed to top government officials, including the Deputy President, Prime Cabinet Secretary, Head of Public Service, and Clerk of the National Assembly.

However, the allegations against Kimotho have yet to be independently verified.
