The Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service, Dr. Erustus Kanga, joined Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Soipan Tuya, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Forestry Gitonga Mugambi, Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki, and Deputy Governor Francis Kagwima for a tree-planting exercise at Chogoria Hills in Mt. Kenya National Park.
Mt. Kenya, a crucial water tower and important wildlife ecosystem, benefits significantly from increased forest cover, which aids in conserving and protecting this vital biosphere and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Mr. Koskei urged the public to support and partner with the Government in the tree-growing initiative aimed at combating the effects of climate change and its associated impacts.
He encouraged community involvement, inviting members of the public to join him every third Monday of the month to plant trees as part of the National Tree Growing Strategy.
During this exercise, over 10,000 tree seedlings were planted, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation and the fight against climate change. This initiative highlights the collective effort needed to ensure a sustainable and greener future for Kenya.
