The Optiven Foundation was honoured to participate in the Waste Symposium 2025, a transformative event convened by the Youth Green Society (YGS) under the insightful leadership of Kimani Mithamo.
Held at a time when sustainable waste management has become a national imperative, the symposium brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders committed to steering Kenya toward a zero-waste, circular economy.
Organized under the theme “Driving a Circular Economy through Innovation and Community Action,” the event attracted policymakers, environmental experts, industry players, and grassroots organizations, all focused on crafting practical and inclusive solutions to the country’s mounting waste challenges.

Throughout the day, panel discussions featuring key agencies such as the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Nairobi City County (NCC) provided a platform for robust dialogue on policy reforms, enforcement mechanisms, and collaborative strategies essential for sustainable waste systems.

A major highlight was the waste innovation exhibition, where innovators showcased emerging technologies and sustainable practices in waste reuse, recycling, and resource recovery.

These innovations spotlighted the critical role of green enterprises in creating jobs, especially for the youth, while protecting the environment.
In alignment with its core mission of empowering communities and preserving the environment, the Optiven Foundation actively engaged in the symposium’s discussions and activities.

The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting environmental responsibility, supporting green entrepreneurship, and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This symposium reaffirms the power of partnerships and innovation in building resilient, eco-conscious communities. The future of Kenya lies in collective action and environmental justice,” said a representative from the Foundation.

As Kenya progresses on its path toward a circular economy, events like the Waste Symposium 2025 are instrumental in inspiring policy, innovation, and community-led change.

The Optiven Foundation remains steadfast in its resolve to be a catalyst for sustainable impact—one community at a time.
