Residents and the community policing team have been urged to maintain a good public relationship with police officers so as to promote healthy coexistence among them.
In his address to Wananchi, who had come together to celebrate the beginning of the year party organised by the Kimilili police station fraternity, Richard Wambua (Kimilili police constable) maintained that it is crucial to have a good relationship with their customers, whom they rely on for the efficacy of their duties.
“We cannot execute our duties as required of us if we don’t get information from our community since they’re the ones who guide us on where and when to find culprits,” noted Wambua.
He further reiterated that the day was special not only to the community policing team but for the entire families of Kimilili and neighbouring sub counties.
“During Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, we’re normally very busy, and that’s why we chose this day, January 13, so that all our families can grace this special occasion to build and grow our bonds,” he added.
The pomp and colour celebrations hosted police officers from across the 45 wards in Bungoma County, children, officers, and civil servants.
In matters of road safety, Wambua called upon public service vehicle drivers to be extremely careful on the roads and ensure sufficient rest.
“Drivers who are fatigued have a high risk of causing accidents. It is back to school season, and we don’t want to continue witnessing more fatalities on our roads,” he cautioned.
“We are very grateful to our police officers for always building rapport with us in this neighbourhood; this is why the levels of crime have gone down in this area,” said one of the guests.
