Africa based e-commerce giant Jumia has picked ex-Britam’s Betty Mwangi as its new Chief Executive Officer for its Kenyan unit.
She takes over the mantle of leadership from Sam Chappate who has been promoted to a senior role within the continental based Group after serving as its Kenyan CEO for the past five years.
Ms Mwangi has previously served as the Group Commercial Director for Britam between 2016 and 2021 after originally joining the company in 2013.
She has previously worked as the Director of Financial Services for Safaricom’s M-Pesa during its formative years from 2007 to 2016.
Under her new role, Mwangi is expected to lead the company’s expansion as it seeks to consolidate its position as the leading shopping platform in the country.
“It is a great honour to be an integral part of Jumia’s journey as we continue to tap the power of the internet to transform Africa. I look forward to working with the team to expand the Jumia universe and trust that my experience and passion for digital innovation will help to propel Jumia to greater heights. I am excited by the opportunity to have a positive impact on the everyday lives of Kenyans through e-commerce,” noted Betty Mwangi.
Jumia has a staff base of 500 while the platform has more than 15,000 sellers.
