Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] General Manager Operation and Harbour Sudi Mwasingo is being haunted for refusing to append his signature in a Sh3 billion tender.
Coast leaders from 13 political parties under the umbrella of Umoja Summit Party of Kenya (USPK) said Sudi was transferred back to his previous post after declining to sign the controversial mult-billion tender.
USPK national chairman Matano Chengo insisted the sinister motive to transfer Sudi back from Kisumu depot was to append his signature to the tender.
“Politically well-connected mafia are behind the multi-billion tender and were determined to ensure Sudi is sacked for refusing to append his signature to the tender,” he pointed out.
In a signed press statement read out during a media briefing held at Royal Court Hotel in Mombasa county Chengo said Sudi was transferred back on condition he signs the tender which he declined.
He accused the government of victimizing Sudi over issues he did not understand.
Chengo said it seems the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) does not even understand when the investigation on Sudi is set to commence.
He said it is regrettable that the DCI is issuing contradicting information on the date the investigations on Sudi are to commence.
“The DCI has summoned him on matters which happened in February forgetting he was at that time still stationed at the Kisumu port,” he pointed out.
The USPK national chairman challenged the investigation team to summon the officer who was on duty and to stop looking for a scapegoat.
Chengo, who was accompanied by KADU Asili repesentative Korokoro Konbora, PAA representative Ibrahim Babangida and UDP representative Eng Mkala Chitavi, told journalists they are in solidarity with Sudi.
He added the container allegedly smuggled to evade tax is a tactic to divert attention from real issues happening at the port of Mombasa.
“The call that Sudi should step aside to allow investigations to be carried out is premature,” he pointed out.
