Eagle Plains Win 2023 Skating Championship

St. Bakhita Eagle Plains primary are the winners of the 2023 Tenth Empire Skating Championship that took enter stage at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.

Sabaki primary clinched the kindergarten overall trophy. It was a scintillating event with six schools taking part in the competition.

Olerai School-Kiserian took gold and silver in the boys 11-12 years category courtesy of Kohath Wanjohi and Brandon Simiyu while Samuel Muriuki of Greenyard Schools came in third in the six-lap race.

Olerai School swept the podium in the girls 11-12 years with Tamasa Adeka, Rose favour, and Cynthia Shell all taking their hard-earned medals home.

Eagles plains James Maina Gatigi was in a class of his own carrying the day in the boys 9-10 years category while Gerard Kimathi of Sabaki junior came in 2nd. Jabari Kibet of eagle’s plains closed the podium places at position three.

In the girls 7-8 years’ category Crystal Wema of St. Bhakita School took the day followed by team mates Emmy Chepkemei and Wambui Gitahi.

‘’My aim is to be the fastest skater. I like winning because my parents will be happy. I felt like a hero after winning.’’ Said Ephraim Wanyeki, of St Bakhita School.

Sharleen Wangari, of Greater Light Academy, could not hide her joy after winning her race.

‘’ I enjoyed the races. I learned a lot and made new friends. My aim is to compete in international races.

According to Mrs. Rosina, the Chief Principal of St Bakhita Kindergarten the goal of taking part in this competition was to look beyond the academics

 ‘’ We want to see learners develop different talents from as young as three years. This is what the CBC is emphasizing, that we nature talent from the school level.’’

‘’What struck me the most is the resilience of the children. There was falling but you can see them waking up to finish the race. At the end of the day, it is not all about becoming number one, it’s about finishing and finishing strong.’’

The event was organised by the Tenth Empire led by the CEO Muuo Isaack.

‘’ We had different categories right from Under 4.  This championship aims to give the children a platform to explore their skating talent. We have taken measures to make sure the event is both safe and fun.’’
