The Kenya Civil Society Reference Group has now questioned the 150 million shillings debt owed by Nairobi City County Government to Kenya Power saying the debt is as a result of wastage perpetrated by the County negligence.
Addressing the media the Civil Society Reference Group Chairman Caleb Otieno says the County has failed to ensure the energy is utilized properly and that there is massive wastage.
“Go to Kangemi,Ndumboini you will find out that those lights are ever on.On the other hand Kenya Power is demanding 150 million shillings why can’t Nairobi County Government first deal with wastage before telling us about their bills.” He said.
He further slammed Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja over creation of boroughs saying he has no such mandate.
“He has no such powers what the constitution stipulates is Sub- Counties not boroughs as thought by the governor. The rule of law must prevail.” He added.
