Nairobi City County Assembly MCA’s now demand an explanation on Constant arrest of business owners by the City Inspectorate Officers.
In a statement to the House by Parklands MCA, Malde Jayendra wanted an explanation from the Chairman Secretariat Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs why Business people are being arrested across Nairobi County.
Malde has confirmed receiving several complain cases by residents of the Business Community over harassment by askaris from the the County and Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
“My Office has received various complains by residents from the business Community over harassment by County askaris and from the NMS despite having legal documents of their business establishment,”Paused Malde.
The Nairobi County Inspectorate Act 2017 states that the City Inspectorate Department is tasked with enforcement in order to prevail and maintain the County.
He has urged the Chairman of the Committee to give a status on how often enforcement Officers undertake their training and when they last undertook their training.
He also urged them to inquire why the officers use force in undertaking their mandate and if they are aware of section 23 of the City Inspectorate Act 2017 which requires them to be orderly.
Many business people have had complains in the recent past on being harassed by the County Askaris where even some take small amounts of many like even 10 Kenya Shillings.
