The President of Bunge La Mwananchi, Francis Awino, has spoken out on pressing governance and political issues affecting Kenyans today.
Addressing the youth and citizens at large, Awino emphasized the need for good governance, transparency, and accountability from the country’s leaders.
Awino highlighted the recent actions of President William Samoei Ruto, noting his strategic engagements across different regions of the country.
He pointed out that Ruto has, on various occasions, declared himself a regional kingpin, whether in Central Kenya or Nyanza.
However, Awino urged Kenyans to focus on the real issues rather than political rhetoric.
“The constitution is very clear under Article 43 – it guarantees rights to housing, food, and healthcare. These are the fundamental needs that every Kenyan expects from their government,” Awino stated.
He criticized the current administration for not prioritizing these needs and instead engaging in political maneuvering.
Awino also addressed the recent political climate, where leaders appear to be more focused on early campaigns for the 2027 elections rather than addressing urgent economic and social challenges. He cautioned that Kenya is heading in the wrong direction, with leaders prioritizing personal political gains over the welfare of the people.
“We are in 2025, two years away from the next elections, yet we see politicians already on the campaign trail. What about the youth who are struggling with unemployment? What about the high cost of living? These are the real issues we should be discussing,” he asserted.
The Bunge La Mwananchi president called on young people to stand firm and demand better governance. He underscored the importance of long-term planning, urging the youth to focus on shaping the future of Kenya for the next 50 to 100 years rather than being swayed by short-term political narratives.
“This is the time for the third liberation – a movement centered on social and economic empowerment. Those who want to engage in politics for personal gain can do so, but we, as the youth, must remain steadfast in our mission to build a better Kenya,” Awino emphasized.
He further criticized the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for its past failures and called for electoral integrity to ensure that future elections reflect the true will of the people.
In closing, Awino reaffirmed the commitment of Bunge La Mwananchi to advocate for the rights of ordinary Kenyans. He called upon all citizens to actively participate in holding leaders accountable, ensuring that governance remains people-centered.
“We must all work together to create a Kenya that works for everyone. The future is in our hands,” he concluded.
