Makadara MP George Aladwa has challenged ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to come out in the open and declare his support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a move that is bound to further deepen the simmering fallout and friction in the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM), Aladwa who is also the party’s Nairobi branch chairperson has accused the senator of using the party structures to advance the interests of Rigathi Gachagua.
The legislator who addressed the media on Sunday has further accused Sifuna of blantatly disrespecting leaders on TV shows and fighting the party’s position on the broad based governornment.
” We know that you are supporting Gachagua and you have been holding meetings for him so just come out clear then we meet on the ground,” he said.
” On the show,Mr Sifuna made inflammatory remarks that amount to incitement and whipping public emotions to his own personal gains,” he added.
Aladwa is persuaded that Sifuna is Gachagua’s pick for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat come 2027.To this effect,he believes that the senator is trying to win over the Mount Kenya voting block in Nairobi.He said that Sifuna’s position on the people who celebrated Raila’s defeat in AUC is quite revealing.
” Those who celebrated Raila’s defeat and those supporting them we now know you,”
He also added that the senator has little influence as far as the party’s support base in Nairobi is concerned.
With the party now in broad based governornment with the Kenya Kwanza government,Aladwa warned the senator against declaring that he is the only one allowed to speak about the party’s position in working with President William Ruto.
” On the show,he claimed that is the only person allowed to speak for the party and that nobody has the powers within the party constitution to say anything that contradicts his selfish impatient interests,”
The senator has also been challenged to showcase his political muscle by mobilising through rallies and not riding on TV shows.
Earlier in the morning,Sifuna has through his social media handles declared his loyalty and faithfulness to the party’s agenda.
“Time does fly when you are having fun. It’s 7 years to the day today! It’s very easy to be SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang. Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC,” a post on his Facebook page read.
Speaking during a national television interview, Sifuna emphasised that not even the party’s Nairobi leadership under Aladwa’s tenure could persuade him to support Ruto.l
Aladwa, in his response, asked the Senator to refrain from mentioning him, alleging that Sifuna’s days as a Senator were numbered.
