The contractor of the building that collapsed yesterday in Mamboleo estate of Kisumu has been arrested. Three people were killed after a two storey building collapsed in Mamboleo.
The three who were identified as Victor Odhiambo aged 29, Florence Odhiambo, 25, and Beatrice Awuor aged 30. Their bodies were moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
The rescue operation was called off last evening with authorities’ saying they believed no one was remaining in the rubbles.
The owner of the building is still in the hide out and police are on his pursuit.
According to police, the contractor, Gilbert Aono, was picked and locked up at the Kondele police station. He is set to be arraigned today.
Eye witnesses who were present said most of the workers were on site during the collapse but they all managed to escape. It was also identified that the building had cracks and it was just a matter of time for it to collapse.

Regional Coordinator of the National Construction Authority (NCA) Eng. Amos Musau said the authority in August 2020 issued the owner of the building with a notice for closure for not adhering to building regulations.
In the recent past buildings have been collapsing and killing people due to negligence and mistakes by the contractors and building owners.
