Kenyans may soon suffer from the Consequences of President William Ruto’s government double speak.
This is according to Bunge la Mwananchi President Francis Awino.
The civil society leader said while president William Ruto is focused on ‘begging’ for finance from China and the USA who are currently rivaling, Kenyans may soon suffer if he cannot choose one of the two to work with.
“What happens when the U.S. sees Kenya getting too close to China? Or when China realizes we’re still begging from their biggest enemy? These powers don’t play games. They pull back, they cut aid, and they take their investments elsewhere. And who suffers? The ordinary Kenyan waiting for jobs, medicine, better roads, and schools. If these deals fall apart because of poor diplomacy, we’re the ones left with broken promises and rising costs of living,” he said.
According to Awino, Kenya needs a clear, principled foreign policy, not this shaky balancing act.
“You can’t serve two masters, especially when they’re fighting each other. What looks like smart politics today could cost the country everything tomorrow,” he added.
His remarks come after the recently ended China State Visit by President William Ruto where Kenya has secured various funding for projects like building of the Nithi bridge.
However, President William Ruto’s remarks while in China about other East Africa countries neighbouring Kenya might severe the country’s diplomatic relations.
While in the US, the president is said to have also sent Finance CS John Mbadi
the US to negotiate more aid and support from USAID and other American agencies.
“Here’s the problem: China and the U.S. are global rivals. You can’t be eating from both plates and expect no consequences. While Ruto thinks he’s being strategic, it’s starting to look like political double standards and ultimately, self-sabotage,” the Bunge la Mwananchi President paused.
