The Budget and Appropriations Committee delegation that was led by the Vice Chair, Hon. Mary Emaase, has completed its second and last day of public hearings on the FY 2024/25 budget estimates in Vihiga County.

The Vihiga County residents who were drawn from; Emuhaya, Hamisi, Sabatia, Vihiga and Luanda Constituencies, in their memoranda, called for monetary allocations towards development of roads, improvement of health facilities, electricity connection, education sector, agriculture and social protection.

On Education, Emuhaya Constituency identified three tertiary facilities; Ebukanga Technical and Vocational College, Bunyore Teachers Training College and Ebunangwe National Trainer College which are all at the birth stage for allocation of funding.

β€œFor Ebunangwe NTC, the president during his visit in November last year directed the Ministry of Education to channel Ksh.100 million in two financial years phases starting FY2023/24 towards infrastructural development ahead of the first admission of the institution,” Ernest Maobe a resident of Emuhaya told the Committee.

Mr. Sabala Inyeni, the Executive Secretary of KUPPET in Vihiga county who represented the teachers implored on the Committee to make the right decisions when it comes to budget allocation, saying that the JSS teachers who are currently on strike were not going to resume work until they get confirmation letters.

β€œThe 46,000 JSS teachers who are on contract and are now on strike should be employed on Permanent and Pensionable terms. Our ongoing strike is protected and we will be on it until our complains are addressed. That is why budget allocation should be done to the right deserving dockets,” he said.

The PLWDs community also called for allocation of funds towards construction of the deaf center, saying that there’s none in the whole Vihiga county.

According to Hon. Emaase in the FY2024/25 estimates, Vihiga county has additional allocation towards equitable share, roads maintenance and fuel levy, primary healthcare, Community Health Promoters, County Aggregation and Industrial Park Programme, Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP) II, Kenya Urban Support Project (KUSP)- Urban Institutional Grant (UIG) and National Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).
