The Members of Nairobi County Assembly allied to Azimio have skipped Governor Johnson Sakaja’s swearing in ceremony despite having received invitation letters.

The MCAs led by outgoing minority Whip Peter Imwatok deliberately avoided the occasion after learning that President elect William Ruto was to be in attendance.

According to Imwatok, they had been assured that Ruto will not attend the event.

“From the invitations we received we were not told he (Ruto) will be present. We don’t have any issue with Sakaja because our candidate has conceded but as it currently stands in the presidency we can’t share a podium with him,” said Imwatok.

The County legislators maintained that their current president elect remains Azimio Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga until the matter is settled in court.

However, in a different statement Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai noted that there were no seats that had been reserved for Azimio

“So we were told to stand or leave. Now forced to leave. Don’t say we boycotted,” Alai said on his twitter handle.
