The Nairobi County Public Service Board Chairperson is on the spot over irregular appointment into office.

This was revealed yesterday during the request of a statement by Ngei Member of the County Assembly Redson Onyango who wanted to know whether the recruitment process for the Chairperson, his vice, and other members was according to the law.

According to the legislator, the process of appointment of Thomas Kasoe (County Service Board Chair), his vice, and members was not as per the County Governments Act of 2012.

“It is alleged that the process of the recruitment of the current County Public Service Board Chairman, his deputy, and members was not as per the County Government Act of 2012. The Labour Committee should inquire and report whether the due process was followed.” Onyango stated.

He also requested that during the inquiry the gazette notice of the advertisement of the said positions should be produced and the number of applicants who made the application.

Further, he said that the report of the said processes by the then committees must be produced adding that there was no vetting that was done.

Redson was supported by the Assembly Majority leader and Makongeni Ward Rep peter Imwatok who said that irregular appointments done at the start are the root cause of the unending ghost workers in the city County.

The majority leader said that Nairobi should follow the steps of Kisii governor Simba Arati by lining up the workers to know the exact number.

“We see a lot of workers here in Nairobi County, for example, the green army whom we know are 3000. But the county has many ghost workers and the menace can only be solved by doing what Arati did in Kisii.” Imwatok stated.

Redson said the county has a huge wage bill that is being paid to people who retired and some even died but their names were not removed from the payroll.
