The owner of Crescent International School, Abdirisak Adem Wasuge, was arraigned at Kibera court on Thursday and charged with assault. Wasuge, who is also a businessman, appeared before Magistrate Monica Maroro, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 30,000 or a bond of Ksh 50,000.

Magistrate Maroro ordered the accused to deposit his passport with the court and to provide a contact person who is a Kenyan national.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) agreed to the accused’s release on bond or cash bail, given that the offense is bailable. The DPP, however, requested the passport deposit due to Wasuge’s status as a foreigner. Wasuge’s lawyer argued that his client should be released on bond or cash bail since he has businesses and a place of residence in the country.

According to the charge sheet, it is alleged that on May 13, 2024, at Clock Tower Suite, City Park, Parklands, in Westlands sub-county, Wasuge willfully and unlawfully assaulted Mahamed Mahamud Cabdi Hassan, causing him actual bodily harm.

The case will be mentioned on June 5 for pre-trial directions.
