Nairobi County Assembly has today proceeded with the election of various chairs and Vice Chairs of various select and sectorial committees.
Amongst those elected to the various committees today are Ngei Members of the County Assembly Redson Otieno Onyango who has been elected chair of the Water and Sanitation.
In his acceptance speech, Redson who was elected for the second term promised to ensure the issue of water shortage and rationing is solved once and all during his period of serving.
“We have been seeing cartels closing the water taps and selling it to Nairobians when it is supposed to be free. We are going to ensure that all the estates are having water,” Redson stated.
Redson who was elected unopposed has also promised to ensure the people who use the water without meters are dealt with and pay the dues that are required.
“I know there are also people using water without meter reading which is not good. As a chair of the committee am going to ensure all pay the water bills and get it well without any obstacles,” he added.
Last week the House approved Members designated to various Committees following a Motion moved by the Leader of Majority, Peter Imwatok on Thursday October 27, 2022.
The assembly Speaker Ken Ng’ondi will chair the Powers and Privileges Committee.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance which is the Minority will chair the powerful watchdog Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Public Investments Committee (PIC).
ODM’s Wilfred Odalo has been elected un opposed as the new Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairperson after his competitors withdrew from the race.
Odalo had been set to face off with Jubilee’s Robert Mbatia who withdrew from the race after ‘sensing’ defeat.
The Mabatini Legislature previously chaired the PAC committee which did a greater role in grilling the usage of funds in the county and procurement.
Odalo will be deputized by Nominated MCA Emily Odour who previously served in the Budget committee too.
“I have served as the PAC chair before and I know I will steer the Budget Committee well in the next there years,” Odalo stated.
PAC will be chaired by Ngara MCA Chege Mwaura and his vice will be elected in the first sitting after the election was called off.
PIC will be chaired by Carlifonia MCA Hashim Kamau.

The speaker stated that the Kenya Kwanza side have been given three vital committed to chair and they are sure of the Legilatures doing their oversight role appropriately.
The Select Committees are Finance, Budget and Appropriations Committee, Public Investments Committee, Implementation Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Delegated County Legislation Committee, Ward Development Fund Committee and the Powers and Privileges Committee.
The Sectoral Committees include the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Transport and Public Works, Culture and Community Services, Justice and Legal Affairs, Labour and Social Welfare, Planning and Housing, Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Health Services, Committee on Children, Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training and the Committee on Loans Management.
