Members of various Select Committees and Sectoral Committees of Nairobi county assembly will today elect their respective chairpersons and vice chairpersons.
The House has already approved Members designated to various Committees following a Motion moved by the Leader of Majority, Peter Imwatok on Thursday October 27, 2022.
Speaker Ken Ng’ondi will chair the Powers and Privileges Committee. Members of the House leadership will not sit in this 14 Member-Committee.
The minority Kenya Kwanza Alliance will chair the powerful watchdog Public Accounts Committee and the Public Investments Committee.
United Democratic Alliance has designated Kawangware Ward MCA Fredrick Njogu to chair PAC. This is the Committee charged with interrogating financial prudence of the County Government among several other related matters.
In a letter by UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina, dated October 12, 2022 to the Clerk of Nairobi City County Assembly, Kayole Central Ward MCA Jeremiah Karani has been designated to chair PIC.
The Select Committees are Finance, Budget and Appropriations Committee, Public Investments Committee, Implementation Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Delegated County Legislation Committee, Ward Development Fund Committee and the Powers and Privileges Committee.
Sectoral Committees include the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Transport and Public Works, Culture and Community Services, Justice and Legal Affairs, Labour and Social Welfare, Planning and Housing, Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Health Services, Committee on Children, Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training and the Committee on Loans Management.
