Nairobi Members of County Assembly have unanimously sailed through a motion compelling the county government through the Water Supply and Sewerage Company to implement the digitization of metered water.

The MCAs say that the move will help the county save a lot of water spent on theft and wastage.

Speaking to journalists at City Hall, Clay City MCA Samora Mwaura says the technology is friendly to the consumer as one will only need to pay for what they have consumed.

“The digital meters means that if the company has supplied me with water I will be able to pay and vice versa. This will help weed out water cartels, spillage and wastage,” Samora said.

Contributing to the motion, nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni said that every Kenyan has a right to access clean, affordable and sufficient water and asked the Nairobi City Water Supply and Sewarage Company to move with speed to implement the motion which is friendly to common citizens.

According to the Nairobi City integrated development plan, the water company is mandated to provide water to a population of 5.9 million.
