Nairobi MCAs Want KRA to Disclose Revenue Collection in the City

Nairobi  County Assembly now wants the Kenya Revenue Authority to come clean on the revenues being collected in the city on behalf of the county government.

In a motion Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto demand transparency on  revenue collected daily by KRA  and whether the cash is being  deposited in County Revenue Fund accounts or not.

Speaker Benson Mutura has now referred the matter to the House budget committee chaired by Hon Robert Mbatia.

According to Ogeto there are murmurs at the  executive that the money do not pass County Revenue Accounts and if it is being deposited, then the county executive are unaware of how much is being remitted daily.

‘‘Hon speaker Kenya Revenue Authority commenced revenue collection for Nairobi City County government in line with the gazette notice number 1609 of 25th February 2020 under article 5.5 of the deed of transfer appointing KRA as a principal revenue collector for Nairobi County Government.’’ The statement reads.

‘‘Hon speaker the gazette notice provided KRA with full and unlimited access to Nairobi City County Government revenue process information data system including and not limited to the records and documents necessary for the effective execution of the mandate. Honorable speaker in the statement the chairperson should inquire into, The total monthly collection  by KRA and accompanied bank statement from the period commencing March 2020 and evidence of the receipts and county revenue funds from all the revenue receipt managed by KRA.’’ It reads.
