A group of youths from Munyuki Sub-Location has issued a heartfelt appeal to their local sub-chief, Madam Caroline Wanyonyi Vuluku, urging her to treat them with dignity and respect.
In a statement reflecting growing tensions, the youths emphasized their respect for her as both a community member and a leader, while also expressing their concerns over recent actions that have strained their relationship.
The youths, who describe themselves as jobless and struggling to survive in Lumakanda, took issue with what they perceive as the sub-chief’s dismissive attitude towards them. They refuted the label of “idlers” and asked for understanding and empathy in their plight.
“Even the President has held town hall meetings to listen to his people. We don’t think you are more powerful than the President,” the statement read, underscoring their desire for open communication and mutual respect.
Tensions escalated when several youths reportedly targeted by police, allegedly in collaboration with the sub-chief, expressed their anger.
According to reports, Madam Vuluku was forced to leave the area to avoid further conflict.
The youths warned that continued antagonism could lead to serious consequences, describing the situation as a “time bomb.”
They urged the sub-chief to reconsider her approach and work towards building a positive relationship with the community.
They also called on higher authorities, including the Deputy County Commissioner of Lugari Sub-County, Mr. Simon Mutai, and the Kakamega County Commissioner, to intervene if necessary. The youths indicated they are prepared to escalate their concerns to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Mr. Kithure Kindiki, should their grievances remain unresolved.
In conclusion, the youths reiterated the importance of the sub-chief’s role and the essential nature of her office but emphasized that a harmonious relationship between her and the community is crucial for peace and progress in Munyuki Sub-Location
